Google holds monopoly over key areas of ad tech, US judge rules

The US government has ruled that Google holds a monopoly over key aspects of advertising publishing, dealing a severe blow to the Alphabet-owned tech giant. The subject of several landmark antitrust rulings in recent government pushes to soften the grip of “Big Tech” on the American economic and cultural landscape, Google has been struggling to find new ways of driving revenue growth as first-party data sale practices and the Chrome ad platform’s power over advertisers have come under increasing fire. Google has vowed to appeal the ruling, but the case’s ultimate outcome remains unclear.



Gatorade taps Kendrick Lamar for latest extension of ‘Is It In You?’

Gatorade has dialed up the star power for the latest iteration of its “Is It In You?”campaign, tapping Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar for a voiceover on its new 60-second spot. The ad run has featured a number of iconic athletes so far, most notably Michael Jordan asking viewers if they had what it takes to become a legend. The ad is slated to run through sports events such as the NBA playoffs, hopefully drawing the attention of hopefuls and elites alike.

BodyArmor, the upstart sports drink that has grown into a major competitor in an increasingly crowded market since its founding in 2011, has launched its largest media campaign in its 14-year history. The sports beverage is endeavoring to differentiate itself from the countless competitors that are vying for the attention of consumers. Rather than framing itself as the drink of choice for elite athletes, BodyArmor’s new spot calls out the unhealthy nature the average athlete’s routine; the new ad encourages change to break through plateaus and reach new heights.
