Blooming into AMA: Welcome Week Recap

We just wrapped up a successful Welcome Week to kick off the spring semester and would love to thank everyone who attended and made this week special! For those of you who missed it, here’s a brief recap of our events:

Day 1: AMA in Full Bloom

Our first event focused on analyzing well-established brands and exploring their current marketing strategies. Participants were divided into six teams, each assigned to evaluate different brands including Wingstop, Sephora, H&M, R.E.M., Lululemon, and Dr. Pepper.

Attendees examined each brand’s strengths and weaknesses while developing creative, innovative campaign ideas to enhance marketing engagement. Each group presented strategic proposals that included potential brand collaborations and ways to capitalize on current trends to elevate visibility and consumer connection.

Day 2: Spring Refresh: Marketing Portfolio Workshop

The second event of Welcome Week was a workshop where attendees got to learn how to create their own personalized marketing portfolios to highlight their personal brand and showcase their projects and accomplishments.

In this workshop, VP of Events Hamilton Gonzalez-Dias and Events Director Rachel Meade walked participants through how to curate a portfolio that accurately reflects their identity while spotlighting their talents. We used Canva’s website feature to create our portfolios, learning about the various features on the site to enhance our portfolio.

From embedding links to specific personal projects, to curating sample campaigns showcasing your creative vision, attendees discovered how a marketing portfolio offers creative freedom while presenting their work in a polished, professional format.

Through this workshop, participants gained practical skills and tangible resources to strengthen their professional presence and personal brand.

Day 3: Growing a Brand with Hilton

To conclude our Welcome Week events we got to hear directly from industry professional Roxanna Jalinoos about what it's like to work in marketing at Hilton. Accompanied by pizza, participants got to hear about her personal experience as a launch analyst working to grow Hilton’s brand.

Jalinoos went over the history of Hilton’s branding, from its different brands and styles to the details of each of the individual brands (Motto, Waldorf Astoria, Double Tree). She also shared a bit about her personal experience starting off as an intern with Hilton and her journey to her current position. Thank you Roxanna for coming out and sharing your insight with us! For any interests or questions contact Roxanna Jalinoos.

Thank you to the attendees and members who showed up this week and we can't wait for the rest of this semester!
